Folic Acid

Folic Acid (Vitamin B9) is essential for DNA synthesis and repair and is critical to new neuron formation. Found in beans, lentil, spinach, avocado, leafy green vegetables, beef liver and kidney, as well as orange and tomato juice, it is also added by federal law, to carbohydrates, like cereal, flower, cakes and breads. Low folate levels can lead to anemia and malabsorption of nutrients as well as ulcerative colitis and liver disease. It is also used during pregnancy to prevent miscarriage and birth defects, as well as later in life to counter dementia, hearing and memory loss.
