There’s nothing we love more than feeding our brain the nutrients it needs for the best brain health possible. We believe health involves more than what vitamins we’re taking –– it’s what we’re eating, drinking, and thinking, too. While The Wave has covered our favorite foods for brain health before, we want to give you one of our favorite recipes straight from Dr. James to boost your neural-nutrients.
Dr. James' Brain Boosting Smoothie
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 tbsp chia seeds
1/2 large avocado
1 packet Sambazon açaí
3/4 cup Siggi's vanilla yogurt
1 cup almond milk
2 scoops ice
Combine ingredients in blender and blend until desired smoothness. Add shredded coconut and blueberries to garnish.
Why are these foods so good for your brain?
Blueberries are a noteworthy ingredient for all things brain-health, in particular due to their antioxidant properties.
Avocados are helpful for helping maintain a healthy blood pressure that’s already within the lower range, making these fruits (yes, they’re a fruit!) not just tasty and trendy, but an unsung hero for brain health.
On top of their excellent antioxidant properties, Chia Seeds include Omega-3 ALA which the brain uses to create DHA fatty acids (essential to brain health, and included in our Restore Dayli formula).
Also packed with antioxidants that benefit the brain, heart, and our overall wellness are açaí berries. We love Sambazon's frozen açaí puree packs for a quick add of superfruit to our smoothies.
We love adding Siggi's Yogurt for a boost of Calcium and Vitamin D.
